There will be two methods shown, an.IBM cabling scheme and a more direct cabling scheme. Both cabling schemes are for full hardware flow control. NOTE: Cabling scheme is for a 64-Port Async Controller attached to one or four concentrator boxes only. A 128-Port Async Controller requires a . different cabling scheme, this is explained in a seperate FIB. If existing cables are being used (4 wires, XOFF/XON only), the following diagrams and cable pin-outs will aid in the making of that cable. 1.) IBM 64-Port Async Controller has four connectors (labeled top to bottom), any single connector may be attached to any one of four concentrator boxes. The IBM Concentrator Box will convert RS422 signals to RS232 signals. The ports on the concentrator box are labeled 0 through 15. It must be noted that this controller is made for IBM by Digiboard, the concentrator box that must be used is also made by Digiboard. The pin signals are not the same as the IBM Consentrator Box that was used for the 64-Port Async Controller, also they are using a 10 pin RJ female connector in the Consentrator Box. The cable diagram that follows, will use an RJ45 (8 pin connector) plugged into the 10 pin RJ connector on the Digiboard Consentrator Box. The SCSI terminator is supplied with the controller. CABLES-IBM (IBM REQUIREMENTS)-IBM-------------------FIB003 Pg002 CABLE AND MODULAR ADAPTER PIN-OUTS ================================== NOTE: DAMAGE MAY RESULT!! RJ45 cables used on 4315/4315A terminals are different than the other RJ45 cables on the system. Due to differences in the grounding, the cables can NOT be interchanged. ** On Digiboard adapters ** The 16-port RANs have 10 pin RJ45 connectors which are normally configured with altpin enabled, and use 8 pin RJ45 plugs. MAI uses 8 pin RJ45 plugs, these plug into the 10 pin socket as pins 2-9 therefore documents that refer to 10 pin RJ45 connectors will be one pin greater than MAI uses (pin2=MAI pin 1, pin 9=MAI pin 8, etc). RJ-45 connector pin clarification 8 pin RJ-45 connectors are described in this FIB, 10 pin RJ-45 is numbered and oriented in the same manner as the 8 pin. NOTE: The modular adapters do not all follow the same color codes, check the actual pins they connect to.
