                          *** General Information ***
This FIB group will contain general information about the IBM RS6000 series
CPUs serviced as Third Party systems, information on MAI RPx7000 systems is
in seperate FIB groups (one common information group and a FIB group for each
system model).

Refer to SOFTWARE-IBM-AIX Operating System FIBs for software information.

                   *** MACHINE TYPES AND FEATURE NUMBERS ***

          IBM has grouped the RS/6000 systems in three major categories called
          machine types.  Machine types may have one or more model numbers under
          them.
          Listed below are the machine types along with the model numbers.

The parts prefix for IBM RS6000 third party parts is TPxxxxxx, do not use
RPx7000 parts (prefix IBxxxxxx) on RS6000 systems.

Product Support will have to be involved before an IBM part can be ordered.

A special RED DMT tag is to be used for defective returns, these are

                *** 8mm tape drive must have data-grade tape ***

SYMPTOM: 8mm tape will not load into tape drive

         Attempt to load 8mm tape into tape drive, but the tape drive keeps
         ejecting the tape.  This is because the drive drive will not accept
         "video quality" tapes.  The tapes must be of "data quality" to be used
         by the tape drive.  If video quality tapes are somehow used the
         warrenty of the tape drive is VOIDED.

FIX: Make sure to use "data quality" tapes.
