It requires a DMAIII controller which integrates the functionality of the SMDI PCBA into the DMAIII controller, the F621 is an SMD interface device as is the Priam P807 (P314) but due to the high data transfer rate the new DMAIII is required. The F621 and DMAIII controller will be on new ASxx systems and all PCBA requirements for the ASxx system must be met if adding an F621 to an existing ASxx system. If an F621/DMAIII is added to an existing 9xxx system the following requirements must be met: 1. The AMS(s) must be P/N 903548-003 at or above Rev P 2. If there are any DMAIs in the system they must be at or above Rev R 3. The O.S. must be 9.6E or later * Specifications * Drive ID ........................= F621 Drive type ......................= fixed 8" Capacity, bytes (formatted) .....= 621,084,672 Bytes/Sector ....................= 1024 Sectors/track ...................= 36 Data Heads ......................= 27 Cylinders .......................= 624 Data transfe rate (Mbytes/sec) ..= 2.458 Average seek time (milliseconds) = 16 * Switch Settings * -----------------SWITCH SETTING LEGEND----------------- : : : C = Closed or On O = Open or Off X = Not Used : ------------------------------------------------------- SWITCH 1 DRIVE 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 ADDRESS ---------------------- ------- O O O O O O O O 0 O O O O O O O C 1 O O O O O O C O 2 O O O O O O C C 3 SWITCH 2 4 3 2 1 FUNCTION ---------- ------------------------------------------------------- X O X O normal operation in horizontal position (short cabinet) X C X O normal operation in vertical position (tall cabinet) Note...switch setting is a fujitsu suggested setting, Testing by basic four engineering shows little change in disk operation. SW3 should be 4,5,6 on, all others off. SW4 should be 3 on, all others off. SW5 should be all off (ALL ON FOR 2ND DRIVE) this is a 7 second delay that reduces current load on the 24 v supply. The Drive contains 4 terminator resistor packs in locations 1 - A,B,C,D near connector CN1. These terminators are only required on the last drive of the daisy chain sequence. This -5volts is not present in the LS-700 Power supplies, and requires an add-on -5 volt supply which is attached to the ACDU. The older 810 style UPPS does supply -5 volts. This would lead you to believe the add-on supply is not needed. If a DMAIII and F621 drive are installed in a system with old style power supplies and the add-on -5 volt supply is not installed, the result will be solid fault indicator on the disk cabinet indicator panel and inability to access the drive with diagnostics. The -5 volt add-on power supply MUST BE INSTALLED in ALL systems that contain a DMAIII pcba. It is to be added to the frame that the DMAIII resides in. MPx/ASxx/GPX70 SYSTEMS TYPE: Informational PURPOSE: Two reasons: o Inform the field of the replacement currently being used for the F621 (aka 590MB) disk drive. o Aware the field of problems that will be encountered when running DEMON on the MPx/ASxx systems. The model of F621 that has been sold is no longer available from the vendor. A higher density version that meets the form, fit and function of the original is available. Though the repalcement disk drive has a higher UNFORMATED capacity, it will ONLY be formatted to the 621MB capacity; 590MB functional capacity. The dirves can be identified by the model number on the HDA assembly, they are as follows: F621 F824 Model: M2344K M2372K MAI PN: 400730-001 (w/Fan) 400730-002 (w/o Fan) Fan Assy: N/A 400730-100; MM# 450011 MM# 450000 (w/Fan) 450005 (w/o Fan) NOTE: These drives are spared as complete units with the exception of the F824. The Fan Assembly is a common part between both models; if an F824 is sent as a replacement for the F621 the fan can be moved over. AT THE TIME OF THIS PRELIMINARY WRITTING, THIS IS HOW IT IS... IT MIGHT BE CHANGED WHERE THE F824 WILL COME WITH THE FAN.. o SWITCH SETTINGS: There are NO switch setting differences between the original and the replacement now being used; they are as follows: MPx/ASxx settings. No difference when the m.7A OS release version is used. REASON: During this test a line of code makes the disk seek to the max sector number, plus 1, and EXPECTS a error. When the F824 is used, this is a valid location and a error is not received, thus causing the test to fail. Some drives may be formatted CRC and the following problems may be encountered while reformatting these drives to ECC: 1) NEWX correctly shows the drive with CRC format, status in the errorlog also shows CRC status (8xxxxx=CRC, Cxxxxx=ECC) but DIVE shows the drive format as ECC. Go ahead and format the drive, DIVE's display is incorrect. 2) Since there are no errors on track 0 DIVE will not format it, therefore it will be left in CRC format. 3) After successfull completion of the format, ROT will not reformat track 0, will give 3.5.3.8 message. 4) Attempting to set up the vol label in a type III load, a write error is encountered, retry, it should work on the second try. 5) ROT should now be able to reformat track 0 but an error will be encountered on every sector on track 0 other than sector 13, you will have to answer Y to continue for each read error (36 sectors/track on F621). NOTE: These problems were encountered on release 10.6H, it is unknown if they exist on other levels, also it is probable that they would also fail on Priam P314 drives on a DMAIII. Format time of a F621 on an AS63 using 1 pattern is approximately 45 minutes (not including the extra steps to get track 0 formatted!).
